The largest union of federal workers on Tuesday announced it's suing the U.S. government in a bid to get it to drop its latest rules restricting talk of presidential impeachment and whether they should #Resist.
The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents some 700,000 federal workers, said it was concerned that the latest guidance restricted free speech and could be weaponized by politically motivated managers, including those seeking to punish people who express support for the president.
AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr. said, "OSC's vague, overbroad guidance creates an opening for managers and political appointees to go after career civil servants for politically-motivated reasons."

Is union membership required?
That's not a workforce, that's the population of a large city. Unbelievable.
Impossible to fire...
To Hell with these a-holes. Outlaw public unions now!
We need to go back to civil service without unions!!!
Put them in prison. THis is subversion of the will of the people by a coup fomenting group of federal workers.
I wonder if the FBI is part of this group of state terrorists.
Typical AFGE posturing. Over the years their national leadership (some of whom were marginally intelligent) have constantly engage in media whore sensationalism over virtually every management issue. They loudly called for Nixon, Reagan and G W Bush’s impeachment. Right now feds and their representatives should shut up and avoid the media to the maximum.
AFGE. Nothing but a bunch of troublemakers. I was in a position for fifteen years that was “represented” by this bunch of lockstep democrat clowns. I never joined, by the way, because, thank God, I’m in a right to work state.
Unbelievable! I must have stepped into a parallel universe where evil is good, and good is evil.
Time to start electing members of Congress that want to start downsizing the federal government, right? Fat chance of that happening, especially from the Dem’s. But, I’d love to see a counter lawsuit or an EO that gets rid of forced membership if there is such a policy in place.
With FLSA being about as thick as the tax code, no need for the protections of organized unions in public sector jobs.
In 2010, I arrived at a DC government job, and part of the inprocessing was the union rep giving a 15 min recruitment speech. From this group of 20 folks, with most having degrees or military time, not a single one was interested. Later, someone brought it up, fewer than five percent of civilians in the agency were union members.
There should be no public sector Unions period.
This is why; they can and would be weaponized as a political army.
I recently hired a young woman who asked me why she needed to do a union related activity as part of her check in process, since she did not join the union. So, perhaps it is not mandatory.
Most people do join the union. I suspect that they are intimidated into doing so by union officials who tell them that their rights as employees will not be protected if they do not join the union. However, labor law applies regardless of union membership. Personally, I would have no desire to join the union. I cannot join now, since I am in the armed forces.
The law restricts political activity by government employees. If the union got its way on this, I can foresee a lot of strife among government workers. Not everyone in government is a flaming liberal idiot.
No., its optional. I was bargaining unit for most of my career and never paid dues.
Government unions of all kinds need to be eliminated.
Interesting article. Thank you for posting it.
