A message for white people:
I know how jarring it may be to hear a non-white person, or maybe anyone, even say the words “white people,” as it can take on a pejorative connotation. That’s fine. This isn’t always comfortable to have to say, but that doesn’t make it any less true, necessary, or timely.
Before I get started, I want to be clear, this is for all white Americans. To my friend, to my foe. To my colleagues, my contemporaries, and my competitors. To the professional athlete and the pee-wee league coach. To my family members. From late night hosts to news anchors, faith leaders to police officers. School teachers, small business owners, and service workers. For allies and detractors, everyone.
I don’t have to waste much of my word count on how Donald Trump has been trying to bring us together… around dividing us into sides. It’s not necessary to explain the ways in which his rhetoric - via speeches at rallies, non-stop tweets, and numerous pieces of policy - has sought to elevate the discourse… to just beneath the floorboards.
There is more than enough coverage on all of that, but what this president has done to you, whether you voted for him or not, is put you into an awkward position that either requires your vocalizing your opposition to separate yourself or gleefully accepts your consent by only requiring you do nothing.
Yes, white people your trial subscription to Donald Trump’s America is over and you have to opt-out or start paying for it.
Sorry, but not sorry, you’re going to have to take a side. And yes, you have to do it now.....

Nice try kid but I and most of my generation are immune to white guilt trips. We actually struggled you see, unlike your generation, and we care deeply about our country and we pay attention to those, like yourself, who disrespect it.

The dirty little secret that no one wants to discuss is that every day, from waking up in the morning until falling asleep at night, white people don’t even think about blacks, let alone plot to subjugate them, any more than they think about aborigines in Australia or native tribes along the Amazon. They don’t look forward to screwing them over, or setting aside a special place for them. They neither go out of our way to avoid them nor seek them out. They’re just not on the radar. I think Obama warped so many lives most egregiously to blacks. Beyond the hatred of America as founded and his mottled and scattered ideology he betrayed so many who thought (rightly or wrongly) that he would raise them up and the MLK “dream” fulfilled. Much of the rekindled racism and violence is because of the betrayal by Obama. He doesn’t see it this way. He thinks this is transformation and the hope and change that HE wanted. The author is confused and is in search of a pound of flesh and the grievance will never end. Contrast that to a man like Frederick Douglas who had every right to be bitter but became one of our greatest Americans AND civil rights leaders.
I take the side of individualism and not judging people based on their race. It appears that you Jarrett Hill are on the side of racism.

When will we know that the injustice has been remedied? What's the indicator? A half million Americans fought and died to end slavery. We now have many laws on the books that favor non-whites over whites in hiring, government contracting, housing, admissions etc, and not one single law favoring white over anyone. Scholarships can be set aside for non-whites, but never whites. A Congressional Caucus is black-only, but a white-only is not allowed. Hillary and Obama both said that we are making progress, but we have a long way to go...

So... since we are already favoring non-whites over whites in many ways in our laws, clearly the end is not "the same laws for everyone, regardless of skin tone", because you seem to want to keep going further with the favoring non-white laws... so again, please, what is the endpoint? When is it over? When is the injustice remedied, and we can start being pleasant to each other all the time?
Not one Progressive has ever answered the question. Mostly, I get called racist for asking it.
And we all know the real answer: Never.
I was forced to pick a side, despite peaceful wishes and entreaties.
I am now comfortable with it. If I have any privilege, it is clarity.
My comment, if allowed on NBC, would ask if Jarret could explain the sides in detail. If I have to pick a side I’d like to know what sides to choose from. And what does he think is going to happen if I don’t pick a side?
Basically I think he is worried for his white friends because of what he thinks is to come and is reaching out. He has a good heart.
It seems a black privilege to threaten whites and to think one can speak to every member of a race and tell them what to do. White people aren’t allowed usually to do that to even one black person.
It may not be race to you dear but it sure as hell is to the enemy more than it isn’t
