Because of last week’s shooting, police fear the escalation of a turf war between the Outlaws and their main rival, the Hells Angels. The city of Portland took the concerns seriously enough to call off a June 16 concert that was expected to attract many bikers.
The 58-year-old motorcyclist who was shot and wounded Tuesday is a member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club Northeast, a club that police say is associated with the Hells Angels.
Portland Police Sgt. Bob Martin, who tracks the motorcycle clubs in Maine, was asked about the likelihood of retaliatory violence. He responded without hesitation.
“There definitely will be,” Martin said.
