If affirmative action had remained that being a minority broke the tie between a white and a non-white, this conversation would be irrelevant.
But, now, affirmative action means that a black who scores 20% less than a white on a given qualification test is accepted, no matter the cost to society - including the lives lost because the new black “doctor” is incompetent, whereas the white prospective doctor would have been adequate (or better).
To use a minority status as a crutch to enter vital economic or societal roles is a self-imposed death sentence on the society.
yup- and its been that way for a long time...
my dad was NYPD for 23 years- during starting in the late 1960s (hideous time for NYC).
17 years on the job (mid 1980’s) as a 2nd grade detective, he took the NYPD sergeant’s exam...he was bypassed for promotion by people who had half the job experience (7 or 8 yrs NYPD compared to my dad’s 17) and got half the score on the test (42’s and 44’s compared to the 88 my dad got)...
that’s what white privilege got my dad...
Fred Reed has a good article about that.
