Letter: Trump, other rich oppress the poor ("One out of four children homeless and/or hungry")
The Register-Guard ^ | June 21, 2017 | Robert Rubinstein

Posted on 06/21/2017 5:52:04 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

CEOs receive $38 million to $70 million per year and more, plus benefits. (We don’t know, of course, what President Trump “earns.”) Then, these CEOs fire thousands of their employees.

Companies are closing. People continue losing jobs. Others remain unemployed. Nearly one out of four children in the U.S. are homeless and/or hungry.

This extreme wealth is truly obscene. How many cars, houses, boats and $50,000 coats do the 1 percent need to maintain their status and rip off everyone else, as Trump has?

A mean-spirited Trump and Congress now propose a budget that would sharply reduce health care for the poor, public school funding, Planned Parenthood and protections for a healthy climate and future, and sharply cut food stamps. The housing shortage has become increasingly desperate for the poor, even more so with an ignorant, incompetent Ben Carson in charge of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The president and the right-wing Republican Congress would do all this to further enrich the extremely wealthy. How pleased they are with themselves. What does this say about their values and humanity?

Robert Rubinstein

Obama had eight years to fix that, right? What happened?

Exactly! And for 2 full years, he had a Dem. House and Senate.

When they were young, all of my children were broke. None was capable of earning a dollar thanks to government meddling in child labor.

Why not just start executing sick people.

Oregon is ready to pass legislation that would let them cut off water to mentally ill patients.

They were some kind of Bobcat/Domestic Cat mix or something. He’d never heard of the magazine and I told him that that demographic should have the jing-wa to afford pets like those.

Total nonsense, as usual. A billionaire in this country owes me NOTHING....I didn’t have the skills nor fortitude to work hard enough to become even a millionaire....that’s my fault, not his.

Robert, did all those hungry and homeless children suddenly occur during the last 5 months since Trump was elected (and who is still operating under obama’s last budget), or did that hungry/homeless children situation develop during obama’s eight years as President?

“If 1 in 4 kids go to bed hungry, why do we have a childhood obesity problem?”

Reminds me of the one about Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass: if only they had shared that ham sandwich, they’d both be alive today.

CEOs receive $38 million to $70 million per year and more, plus benefits.” Not to mention $65 million for book advances.

so what???, you had the same opportunities that they did.....get an education, invent something, think of a new use for something, cure a disease, invest wisely....whatever they did, just do it....

I know at least a few hundred people that have water bills between $50K and $100K per Month, Electricity Starts at $10K per month to power the smaller places.

Nonsense, there are shopping centers that don't pay that much....

I guess you missed my subtle point. In 2000, Jack Welch earned $7.1 million for his book. At the time, he was probably one of the most admired CEOs in the US, and during his tenure at GE, the company’s value rose 4,000%. And GE stock was about double what it is today.

http://www.nytimes.com/2000/07/14/business/book-advance-for-ge-chief-is-7.1-million.html

In 2017, for creating worldwide chaos, racial hatred greater than that of any time I can recall, and a regard for the law roughly equal to birdcage liner, Barack and Michelle 0bama are being paid $65 million or about ten times what Jack Welch got for 8 years of a profound trail of destruction. I have no objection for anyone selling any damn thing for any amount of money they can get for it. What I object to is the hypocrisy of folks who decry whatever CEOs get with the amount the 0bama’s will get for their book which will be written by others, after perhaps 50 hours of interviews, call it 65 hours, $1 million an hour, and how many pairs of shoes that could buy for the community activist working so hard for his peeps.

Many American children are going hungry because mom and dad are shooting the cost of grocery money in their veins.

"Most of these super-rich are socialists."

Go figure.

The only nominally republican I know of billionaire is Thiel, who committed the unpardonable sin of supporting Trump. And Trump isn't a doctronairre conservative by any means.

He's pro-gay marriage, but at least he is pro-life in his actions.

Even the "evil" Koch brothers are libertarians.

They are pro liberal causes, but their "sin" is that they support free markets.

I cannot think of another multi-billionaire who is any way "conservative".

The Koch’s are not really libertarian. They are “court libertarians”, meaning they support libertarianism in some superficial ways (legalizing pot and porno). They are not in favor of getting rid of the Fed, or applying the NAP to foreign policy. There is no way they would openly support Trump.

Billionaires do not want to change the system that made them so wealthy.
