What of people such as myself, who understand the datamining and ad targeting game having been in the direct marketing industry, and sort of take a perverse pleasure in seeing just how flimsy the algorithms for online marketing actually are? I honestly can’t say whether I’d love or hate to see my “profile” online. If you’re brave, easily amused or both, try it sometime. Go do some weird web searches, visit some weird websites, allow cookies and leave them in place. Then watch the ads that are dropped in on every website as a result. It’s very amusing. They don’t “know” as much as they think they know. The most irritating thing to me is the apparent scanning of emails on Gmail for keywords, because I’ve had ads targeted that could only be as a result of a presumably private email exchange.

Asimov “Foundation” ping!
Those without a significant digital footprint can be captured. Based on what data there is and traditional census and household socio-economic data a personality type can be constructed.
Data miners know exactly how much digital usage by neighborhood, and by family if needed, occurs.
The goal of every campaign is to spend the least amount of resources, in an area, to get just the right amount of result.
In battleground states, this is a tool that can carry the day, and it did for Trump.
It doesn't replace the candidate, personal appearances, local face to face networking, party structure, etc. but in a close race it can make the difference.
Think of it as personal political contact software version 2.0. The Hildabeast was using version 1.0 and paid the price.
Good Stuff!
Posted the first thing that came to my head. Or I could have said Harry Seldon Lives! ;)
What’s fun is to like stuff that you don’t like and ignore stuff you like. I do that a lot.
Yeah. I’m an outlier. But then, that is why they only have 85% to 95% certainty on a lot of this.
And that’s more than they need.
It’s not at all about trump. It’s about how they can pre-determine things way in advance. It’s about the data collection being accurate to a scary extent.
This article reminds me of a 1981 PBS show called “the public eye”. It showed how accurately they were able to catalogue people’s attitudes about even certain words used by predidential candidates via focus groups with “like/dislike” buttons.
They’ve come a long way since then, but it is still not perfect and never will be because of the wild card: Faith in Christ.
If there were no God, eventually, we could all be utterly manipulated in any direction those with power see fit.
Remember Wall-E, on the luxury ship, everyone is wearing red tights and the advertisement said, “try blue. It’s the new red!” And everyone changed their color to blue. This is, in a very real way, what is already happening.
(or was it blue to red. I forget.)
I think what this is trying to illustrate is that they understand exactly what you are doing and can build your psychological profile from it.
I’m sane.
Reference point of all arguments today are from views of Marx as the center point. Headshake.
HOORAY Michael Kosinski. Great idea. Psychological profiles via Facebook.

Maybe ...maybe not. But consider for one second, Trump used this during the campaign. Trump is a smart, smart guy and he has a big war going on right now with MSM.
We do have a law on the books that allows the government to propagandize United States citizens. Democrats for years have used the MSM to do it. We questioned all those crazy women this past weekend truly not understanding the depths of their fears about Trump. ...social media and big data?
Could that same ‘propaganda’ channel be used to circumvent MSM to get the truth out? They tried it during the campaign and if the click thru rate truly was 1400% as claimed, it is a powerful weapon against the ‘fake news MSM.’
I have to say, anything I look at on Amazon seems to follow me around on the ads on other sites.
Not that I care. They’re welcome to try to find things to sell me. I just wish their algorithms were better.
Just for the record I am the biggest Wu Tang Clan in the universe.

My very first thought.
VERY Harry Seldonesque.
I won’t be taking the OCEAN quiz, that’s for sure. Too much Big Brother for me already.
From my years in Checkmate on the Air Staff and at the A-AF CLIC the true value of this is using it to increase the fidelity of understanding against potential adversaries.
Eventually, the libholes will begin using this tech for their campaigns. There is nothing in this technology that prevents the libs from being able to use it for themselves. So we have to manage out expectations that this tech will lead to our long-term dominance.
