Mats Lewan has posted on his Impossible Invention blog that Andrea Rossi has been granted a US Patent
The patent was granted today, August 25 2015.

By golly, there are some marvelous machines and processes detailed there! It’s a darned shame that none work :|
OK, he has an exothermic reaction within a heat exchange system.
I don’t recall ever seeing “1/3 inch” in the same paragraph as “1 mm.”
Back in one of my classes, I saw a very small piece of sodium pulled from a beaker of liquid to show how caught fire in its reaction with ambient air.
Keep in mind that “it actually works” is not a criterium for patentability.
The criteria are: Novelty, non-obviousness, and industrial applicability; the latter being more of theoretical criterium meaning it can be made or used in industry (and is not tested).
If you have an E-Cat ping list, plz add me.
At the following link there are a lot of interested parties in the comments section.

I heard similar comments decades ago about the 200 mpg carburetor.
I don't find lots of interest to equal lots of reality.
IMO, it is both. The device works as claimed, but is a very early (although practical) implementation. I am sure that both larger and smaller units based on the technology will be developed.
IMO, yes. This US patent gives far more details than Rossi's earlier Italian patent. There are several items in the patent that had not previously been divulged....specifically the inclusion of metallic lithium powder (in addition to the lithium aluminum hydride) in the fuel mix, and a composition formula giving rough amounts of nickel, lithium powder, and LiAlH4 needed.
If only Exxon and GM had let it live!
Have twenty-six patents myself, so am well aware of patent-ability criteria (including "paper" (as in "only exists on paper") patents). I
There used to be one (not maintained by me). But I don't have the time to run one. This post on the patent is strictly a one-off due to the importance of subject, and the fact that actually receiving a patent increases the likelihood that more information will be forthcoming.
And with the new info from the patent, I expect that multiple replications will soon be done.
Totally agree...and I might add that that his process reminds me of classic alchemy.
Seems the claims are far too narrow to afford any significant capture of space in this area, if the chemicals can be changed. Should this one “work”, competitors will be modifying the crap out of it or proto-ing their own so as to not infringe.
Here’s claim 1:
1. An apparatus for heating fluid, said apparatus comprising a tank, an electrical resistor, and a fuel wafer, wherein said tank is configured for holding fluid to be heated, wherein said fuel wafer is configured to be in thermal communication with said fluid, wherein said fuel wafer includes a fuel mixture that includes reagents and a catalyst, wherein said electrical resistor is in thermal communication with said fuel mixture and said catalyst, wherein said resistor is configured to be coupled to a voltage source, wherein said apparatus further comprises a controller in communication with said voltage source, and a temperature sensor, wherein said fuel mixture comprises lithium, and lithium aluminum hydride, wherein said catalyst comprises a group 10 element, wherein said controller is configured to monitor a temperature from said temperature sensor, and, based at least in part on said temperature, to reinvigorate a reaction in said fuel mixture, wherein reinvigorating said reaction comprises varying a voltage of said voltage source.
If the fuel mixture can be varied, competitors may be home free.
I fully agree. I think Rossi's specific embodiment is a rude, crude, kludge. I put it as the equivalent of the Newkomen steam engine (which worked quite well, and enabled the birth of the coal/steel Industrial Revolution).
Who will be the "James Watt" of "cold fusion"????
And it is still a long step from our "LENR-proto-Watt" to the equivalent of a modern steam turbine power plant.
In other words, this Patent has nothing to do with Rossi's E-Cat.
It's also worth noting that this Patent contradicts just about everything Rossi (and his pal Levi) have been claiming over the years. The last "test" allegedly converted the fuel (containing ordinary Nickel and other miscellaneous) into 99% pure Ni62. There is no plausible reaction that could do this, but 99% pure Ni62 is readily available from chemical supply houses
Just more razzle-dazzle to string along the chumps who have given Rossi money (including franchisees who were told that Rossi had production-ready E-Cats to sell in 2012).
LOL. Since Rossi only first came to public attention in 2011, your comments appear just a bit ridiculous.
As to your scare comments about LiAlH4, any chemist can handle it with no problems. My wife used it frequently doing her dissertation research. A glove bag and tank of nitrogen is all that is needed.
And at $129 per 100 grams, an experimental quantity isn't going to put anyone in the poorhouse.
Great post SB.
Lithium Aluminum Hydride is not something you want to be working with in your garage.
