Should I ready a knife, or would I be misinterpreting this passage?Catholics would get out a knife; if they applied the same rules to it as they do they oft mentioned...
...this is by body...
I've noticed that nearly no one is a "complete" literalist--even those who call themselves literalists. (And most Catholics don't seem to fit that self-identification. That is, if anyone's going to reach for the knife simply based on "applying the same rules to it," a Catholic group isn't what first comes to my mind.)
Yes, I'm aware that most who call themselves literalists acknowledge that their goal is not being "completely" literalist (does God literally have wings, or is Jesus literally a vine?) but literalist by default, as much as possible--whenever the literalist meaning makes sense to them. But this criterion doesn't result in perfect unity of interpretation. Different people and groups interpret different passages "literally" or not. Even two groups that both identify themselves as literalists concerning a given passage may disagree on the actual literal meading of the passage.
In other words, even "literalism" is more complex than it may at first sound. At least I'd hope that people may take Romans 12:17-18, for example, a little more literally. (Of course, the real solution may be taking it more seriously.)
Instead of me leaving you with sort of a vacuum and/or a negative (in terms of what someone does not preach) ... let me leave you with a few good sources for the Word of God, from good preachers and those I do listen to more.
One is David Hocking at Hope for Today. I would recommend him highly.

Then there is Dave Hunt at The Berean Call Ministries. Dave has died, but the ministry continues and they got a lot of good resources there.
http://www.thebereancall.org
There is also Thomas Ice at the Pre-Trib Research Center
http://www.pre-trib.org
Then Dr. Randall Price at the World of the Bible Ministries
http://www.worldofthebible.com
Dr. John F Walvoord, a former President of Dallas Theological Seminary (dead now) ...
http://www.walvoord.com
I’ve got a lot more, and so this is just a smattering of those I have listened to over the years and look up stuff from them today.
This gives you something to “take with you” instead of “nothing at all” from my previous post ... :-) ...
OH ... one more that I meant to include in that initial list was Dr. Robert Jeffress at First Baptist Dallas ...
http://www.firstdallas.org/our-pastor/
He is an excellent pastor. I used to go there at First Baptist Dallas when I was helping my dad in his old age. He went there, too. AND ... as a side note that church is said to have been the home church of Billy Graham (since you’re interested in Billy Graham) ... although I never saw him there ... :-) ...
You absolutely can’t go wrong with Dr. Robert Jeffress!
At this late point in my life on planet Earth, I am no longer trying to heap up many Bible teachers and instead want to rely on reading and studying the Holy Bible under the continuing tutelage of the Holy Spirit, utilizing available references at home and online which may help me with better understanding particular passages of Scripture.
In addition to the teaching given and received at my local fellowship, I also try to hear Dr. Charles Stanley each week and usually succeed.
Thank you for all your good references in your posts to me.
R2z
Ah yes ... good ole Charles Stanley. From what I’ve heard, I do like him ... :-) ...
I am not Catholic. I have never been a Catholic. However I do love the Lord and I am disappointed at the behavior of His flock.
I just downloaded the iTunes Podcast of that and the last few before it. I’m going to listen to them ... :-) ...
And they aren't pens of His making. They are man made constructs. So many things have been added by man that He never commanded, stone edifices, sects, sprinkle or dunk, baby baptism.....
I have to go to bed. Night.
Jesus of Nazareth speaks, as recorded in...
John 10:(NASV)
14 I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me,
15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
So, there is to be one flock with one Shepherd, not different flocks in more than one pen (fold) as I misstated.
It's not for ME to make such a JUDGMENT call.
"Go ye into ALL the world..." is quite clear to me.
Very good!
But remember; even in the darkest jungles; there are Witch Doctors who turn to Christ.
As your answer touched all the bases; why did you want to know what MY interpretation was?
I hear ya!
When someone tries to get me to go to this meeting or that seminar or listen to this teaching; my reply is, "I already KNOW more than I probably DO."
Meaning that my walk is not nearly as good as my talk.
