Meanwhile, the Russians militarily occuped an area of Ukraine called Crimea. [editorial note: nothing to see here, just a coincidence /s] Now, other Russians who favor closer ties with Russia (or to ditch Ukraine altogether) are protesting, and Ukraine is trying to get them in line. Presidential election scheduled for May 25, I believe.
That's about it . . . it's a mess. No one comes out of it a champion.
Sorry, but that is not true. Ukraine and EU never had signed an agreement. Yanokovich tried to renegotiate the terms of the agreement to be signed, but the EU refused, and so he declined the deal.
What is also lost in the propaganda is that there were definite real conflicting interests between different parts of Ukraine. To put it simply; the western agrarian part of Ukraine, and Kiev with its central administration would have gained from a deal with EU. The eastern industrialized part of Ukraine would have lost economically, at least in the short and medium long run. And that would have been the case even without a Russian customs barrier. (There are several papers, also from EU funded researchers showing this.)
I think you have the right of it except the heavy hand was initially Russian snipers taking head shots at protesters. Of course the Ukrainian president took the fall but may or may not have known about the false flag.

Thanks for the explanation. It had me totally confused, as I had been out of the loop and couldn’t figure it all out.
