I think it all seemed quite simple in the beginning. But lies grow, they propogate into more lies, and pretty soon, you have a forest.

Perhaps the father, having become quite paraniod, having written to various associates that he expected to be assassinated, thought that his male progency would also be target. The mother, very young, very highly placed socially born of parents of a ruling class family, was persuaded to give up the child?
The father had a good friend in the President of Indonesia. Maybe the boy was destined to go there...but first, he needed an ID and a mother who could take him out of the country.
