You may have unwittingly answered your question with that phrase. Is it reasonable to suspect the aircraft was intended to have suffered much more damage and loss of life than what actually occurred? Perhaps the actions of the pilot foiled the original attempt to sabotage the plane?

Then the question becomes whether the saboteurs were just fortunate that Fuddy died thereafter or whether someone was around to “clean up” afterwards?? Or perhaps Fuddy was given something prior to the flight that brought about the “heart failure” - again as an insurance policy to her demise...

I think your assumption that the plane was intended to have a survivable crash may be incorrect.
