Civil rights for blacks became a reality in 1964.

When would civil rights for blacks have become a reality had Lincoln not launched war against the secessionist southern states?

When would the union have been restored, if at all, had Lincoln chosen to allow the secessionist states to go their own way?

Lincoln ‘’launched’’ a war against the secessionist states? I thought the South had been agitating for a war and launched it when they opened fire on Fort Sumter.

Probably much sooner with less hatred and animosity. The level of vitriol created by Lincoln's war lasts to this day. Blacks, amongst others, paid the price for the ham handed approached to the secession of the South by the Illinois Butcher&$153.
