New York and New Jersey ordered the evacuation of nursing homes and low-lying coastal areas already devastated by deadly Superstorm Sandy as a smaller but still powerful Nor'easter approached from the Atlantic Ocean. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg closed parks and beaches and temporarily halted outdoor construction ahead of the storm, which was pelting the Washington area with ice pellets on Wednesday and whipping up seas as high as 7.5 feet about 20 miles off New York's JFK airport, AccuWeather reported.

Look, I have precious little sympathy (read: "none") for those who voted for entitlement and then come around whining that Uncle Handout wasn't there providing for them in the manner which they expected. Tough beans for not watching out for yourself.
But there are a lot of people who experienced a tragedy in Sandy that was beyond anything any of them expected and beyond what they prepped for. There are some levels of destruction and just can't be dealt with on a human level.
Don't lump them in with looters, welfare queens, and other entitlement mentality deadbeats.
Contrary to the popular opinion (stereotype), not all NYers are kool-aid drinking liberals. I know a lot of good, decent, VERY conservative people who live in NY, and I will not accept *blame* for *living in Sodom*. If all the Christians who are conservatives left all the liberal areas, who would be ministering the love of Christ to those in need?
Christ commanded us to go into the world and make disciples. We are to be in the world but not of it, but that means being IN places where the need is greatest.
Even Jesus came from an area with a bad reputation. Remember, Nathanael asked “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

You know, I’ve noticed over the years, that those who harden their hearts towards others suffering and tragedies, tend to undergo their own at some point in their lives.
It kind of puts them in their place, burns the pride and arrogance out of them.
Those FReepers who live in blue states and HYPOCRITICALLY tell others who live in blue states that they’re getting what they deserve because their state voted blue, will get theirs.
And honestly, that’s the thing I am most flabbergasted over. The stone throwing.
Funny how they can dish it out and not take it. There are none so blind as those who will not see. The first step to recovery is to recognize that you have a problem, but there’s no hope for those who condemn others while being in the exact situation themselves. That kind of willful blindness takes some serious correction.
They’ll not get a plug nickel in charitable assistance from me. If they want to lick the hand of government, then they can freeze in the dark waiting for FEMA to come to their aid. I’ll help those who help themselves. The whiners and hand wringers made their own bed. File this one under “choices have consequences”.

You know, I’ve been watching this attitude towards NY-ers and NJ-ians (or whatever) for over a week now concerning the destruction of the region by Hurricane Sandy and it has gotten well past old.
I live in NYS and am NOT a kool-aid drinking liberal. I know plenty of people who live downstate, and there are FReepers who live there who I don’t know personally, who do not *deserve* what they’re getting in the aftermath of that storm. Nobody *deserves* that.
The blanket condemnation of all people in an area because of the actions and attitudes of a few, is simply not acceptable from those who call themselves FReepers. Neither is the callous hardening of hearts towards those who have lost everything.
That storm hit indiscriminately, not picking and choosing based on voting preferences. It had nothing to do with politics.

Today we are all burnt and mad and looking for a dog to kick. A lot of us are working on little to no sleep, hooch hangovers, and wild disapointments.
And we all know good and well that if a fellow freeper was in trouble we would do whatever we could to help out...no matter where they live. And we also know we don’t wish disease and disaster on each other.

I’m in Florida so I guess it applies down here as well. Ah well sometimes the best response is ‘God Bless You’, and move on.
One thing the lefties have over Conservatives, they will usually band together and support lefties in trouble.
Its so easy to get conservatives to fight amongst ourselves.
