It’s a vestige of a Jewish custom not to permit a writing of the special Hebrew covenant name of God (sometimes rendered Jehovah in translation) to be disrespectfully destroyed. So by analogy Jews, and Christians with certain sympathies to Jewish practice, will not spell out God in a volatile medium. There are worse issues to disagree about in religion than this... far worse issues. Just read G-d as God and keep going.
No..typing it that way is just a way of showing more respect for the name...is all. Just being extra polite to the Omnipotent one.
