It has nothing to do with outcomes. It has to do with defending the principles upon which we all stand. Endorsing Romney means throwing every single principle of Conservatism under the bus...
I do not expect Christians to compromise their deeply held convictions wrt 'Right to Life' and 'Sanctity of marriage' in order to put this mook in office... But the ABO crowd around here does.
I do not expect Military conservatives to vote for a guy whose whole family does not have a single member who served... But the ABO crowd does.
I do not expect fiscal conservatives to suddenly throw out Austrian Capitalism in favor of Keynesian economics... but the ABO crowd does.
I do not expect civil libertarians to give up the Constitution, small government, and RKBA in favor of gun control, enabling federal power, and the belief that the Constitution is a 'living document'... But the ABO crowd does.
Never in my life have Conservatives rolled over on these issues for the sake of expediency (not to mention all of them at once), and I don't expect they will now - Because rolling over on these issues will certainly leave them wholly undefended (never to be championed again), and will remove the last vestiges of opposition to liberalism.
This is an election of dire consequence, to be sure:
Many say that there will be nothing left to defend after 4 more years of Obama...
I would say that without these truths, which we hold are self-evident, there is nothing left to save.
Thank you for stating the plain, unvarnished fact of the matter so succinctly... and so eloquently. ;)
Good rant - I thought I addressed my question to someone else, but you are a fine surrogate. I am guessing that you have reached the "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose" stage and have finally acheived true freedom - you no longer have to worry about clawing to preserve the last vestiges of it and can merely succumb to those that would take everything from you. Following your principles is likely to result in a fraud machine gone wild and leave another Revolutionary War as the only hope - only this time the bad guys are very well aremed and based right here - they don't have to sail 3,000 miles to get to us.
I'm starting to think that many of you belong to some new movement that sees the destruction of what's left of the USA as the catalyst to make you relevant and you are using arguments like Religion and Who served in the military as comfortable crutches.
