There is a controversy brewing at the London Olympics and it doesn't involve judges, steroids, or tanking matches (we're looking at you Badminton) - it involves bikinis.
Critics are claiming that not only are the women's beach volleyball uniforms too sexy, but that photographers seem to be focusing an inordinate number of their images on certain parts of the female anatomy.
Are the Olympics women's beach volleyball photos too sexy? That is the claim being made by some people who find that too many pictures of these female Olympians are filled with crotch shots and close-ups of women's derrieres in tight bikini bottoms, according to the Huffington Post just yesterday.
... Although female beach volleyball teams are no longer required to wear bikinis while competing in the Olympics, most of them chose to continue the tradition of skimpy two-piece swimsuits for the 2012 Olympics.
It should come as no surprise that the women's beach volleyball photos of competitors in bikinis come across as far sexier than photos of Olympians who chose to compete while fully clothed. While wearing a bikini, everything from hand signals to a congratulatory hug looks sexy. No one is blaming the women for being too sexy. The question is whether the photographers are gratuitously focusing on certain body parts or poses when they snap their photos.
So what do you think? Too sexy, too photographed, or not enough of either?
I offer no objections.
ping out poll voter list...
You’re just jealous you don’t look like that.
Yes. They can wear t-shirts and shorts - the men do, and they can play just fine.
T-shirts and shorts can be very cute and attractive. They don’t need to play in their underwear.
Here’s a novel idea: if you don’t like the uniforms, simply do not watch it. Pretty easy solution IMHO.
I’m with you, yarddog. I’ve noticed the American team has been putting on shirts, and I think that’s good.
I’ve noticed very skimpy swimsuits, and running suits all along the way and I don’t like the trend. Last night watching the women track competitors I’ve noticed most of them half naked.
I know they used to compete naked in ancient Greece but they also used to whip false starters. Many people watching the Olympics have standards of modesty that they don’t like to watch all the flesh.
The Olympics are about excellent, not decadence.
By the way, found this interesting link about the Olympics. It was written by an IT guy who has terrible spelling skills, but it is interesting.

They are wearing lingerie, not uniforms.
If women in these sports want to be taken seriously, they need to quit with the strip tease routine every time they take the field.
The indoor VB women do wear appropriate uniforms.
And, yes, I look, but it is no more a sport than the pole dancing down at the Pink Pony.
So the women can choose to go topless? Sounds good to me.
If you don’t like the uniforms, you’re probably a homo, so we can totally ignore your opinion.
I told my husband that I had a real problem calling these women ‘serious athletes’ when they’re constantly picking their shorts out of their butts.
When they’re wearing less than the women’s swim team, they’re just being ridiculous. (I do give swimmers and divers a lot of leeway on this. Every tiny thing can mess up drag.)
Yes, they’re using sex appeal for ratings. And yes, it does distract from the actual sport.
(As I type this, we’ve got the men’s volleyball game on TV. They’re wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts and they’re playing just fine. So there’s no justification for women to wear nothing more than a sports bra and underwear.)
Now, if someone wants to make the point that sex sells and that near-naked women attract viewers... that’s fine.
But then I want some eye-candy for myself.
Bring on the oil and the bright-red banana hammocks!
Did anyone see that incredible soccer kick the US did against Russia in their game? I didn’t even know kicking the ball was legal in Volleyball, but you have to see it. The American kicked the ball in the air, setting up a perfect spike.
no one would watch if not for the hot chicks..... Do ya see old fat hairy dude volleyball? Course not...
Why dont you back up and read my post # 12 before spouting off, pal.
Been watching for 5 mins,,, what sport was that.??. Lol...
I love the little gymnast, Gabby, but my sons took one look at her and said, “She has a serious case of atomic wedgie. These games are a pedophile delight.”
It made me uncomfortable just to watch her. The other girls costumes were not as bad.
Just how do you quote small videos?
