I am appalled at the hypocrisy on this thread. If Hitchens had been a liberal like Bill Maher, rather than making excuses and wishful thinking most people would be “Hope he likes Hell”.
Consistency is important in conservatism.

was for the most part a liberal, way on the left on many issues. He was only with us on a few points at a few times and rejected the beliefs and values of most of us. So what? He didn't harm us, and he stood with us on some important things. He was a great talent, a brilliant man who clearly was wrestling with questions of his mortality and eternal state. So the right thing to do is to pray for mercy for him.
When Mahr dies I'll pray for him as well, even though privately I'll be glad I never have to hear him again. I actually pray for Mahr right now.
