He may have asked for God's forgiveness on his deathbed. How can you be so presumptuous. I hope the guy is sitting at the right hand of the Father. How people can be so cruel to people is beyond me. I pray that he has a front row seat in Heaven. I refuse to be like those imbeciles who yelled “He is guilty” and caused Jesus to be hung from the cross. If you feel you are an expert as to who is going to Heaven and who doesn't, then perhaps YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!!!!!
Having spent over 2 decades caring for people on their deathbed, many of them atheists and a few agnostics, deathbed confessions are not nearly as common as some people would like to believe. It makes the survivors feel better. Every time I had one of those situations I had to deal with family asking what was going to happen to them. That is not a position anyone wants to be in.
My father was an atheist and proudly remained one on his deathbed, my uncle was cursing and going on about God not existing as his final words.
I suspect Hitchens was a lot like my uncle.
