Oh please, cry me a river. Retail workers are not the only labor segment that works holiday hours.

Try farming. Livestock is 24/7/365. Try self employment and paying your employees before you pay yourself and trying to find employees that show up sober, don’t whine or steal you blind.

Life is tough. Some have good luck, some have bad and others work their asses off to make their own luck.

Furthermore, Thanksgiving as a family tradition does not have to occur on the 4 Thursday of November. Generally, any family with two brain cells can figure out the best time to have a celebratory feast that fits all or most of its members.

Christmas in July is a great theme for a family reunion.

That's a great point that I forgot about.

For a number of years I used to hunt pheasant in the N.W. corner of Kansas, staying in the farmhouse of a friend's friend. The owner owner of the farm owned tons of acres and farmed it all. He was also the president of the only bank in town.

That meant that he had to attend to responsibilities of the farm and cattle early in the morning and then go into town to work in the bank. When he got off work at the bank, he then had to change back into his coveralls and head back out to the fields and the cattle..........Dawn to dusk, 24/7.
