The recent Tea Party rally in St Augustine was interesting on many levels. Even in our heavily Republican area, The Record reports that no more than 200 to 250 tea partiers were in attendance at any one time. Far from being a "People's Tea Party," it is a very well-funded minority within the Republican party. Its major funders are billionaires like the Koch brothers, David and Charles, of Wichita, Kansas, and Rupert Murdoch, media mogul. Its members, however, are predominantly from one demographic: white, middle class Americans.
Interesting, too, is the attention this minority group receives from some Republican politicians, notably our governor, Rick Scott, and our local state senator, John Thrasher. The money interests speak for themselves. Scott, a billionaire himself, effectively purchased his office. If he dances to the tune of the Tea Party it is because this is where his own economic interests lie, not because he needs financial support. Nor do the interests of most Tea Party members correspond to those of their billionaire backers. One is tempted to speculate that they represent frightened members of the middle class who see their position eroding under the wealth-friendly policies of every administration since Ronald Reagans and think jettisoning all interests but their own will save them from falling to lower economic levels.
But more frightening than interesting are the tactics tea partiers are willing to use to maintain their vulnerable economic position. Back in March, protesting the health reform bill, tea partiers assaulted members of Congress, spitting on Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo.; calling Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., civil rights veteran, the "N" word; shouting "Faggot" at Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.
Here in St Augustine, one tea partier, Kristianne Hall, used the violent rhetoric one has come to associate with their movement. She suggested we have a "second amendment duty" to arm out children. She evoked the venomous attacks of the rattlesnake to suggest the defense of what she called "American independence," an independence tea partiers seem to think is threatened by their own democratically elected federal government. And a Gainesville radio celebrity called his political opponents "left-wing fascists in drag," getting in a bit of homophobia along with a definition of fascism worthy of the caterpiller in Alice in Wonderland, who believes words should mean what he wants them to.
Perhaps it's time to name the Tea Party with the terms its behavior and rhetoric deserve. When Scott threatens state Sen. Nancy Detert, D-Venice, a moderate Republican, with pressure from his Tea Party supporters because she opposes his attack on public employee unions, we should ask why he is calling for the Brown Shirts to attack a member of his own party. This is fascism. This is the threatening of democratically elected politicians with potential violence.
Just as moderate Muslims must speak out against the terrorists within their own community, moderate Republicans, for the sake of their party, should renounce the potential domestic terrorists within their ranks. I have yet to hear U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner or our own Florida Republicans do that.

Ellen Blais is a retired English teacher who taught at Mansfield State University in Pennsylvania. She and her husband live in St. Augustine six months out of the year.
Freudian slip there with state Senator Detert? And still repeating the lie about the "racism" at the national capitol? Hadn't heard that one in awhile.
Yankee college professors tend to suck.
Do you actually expect the truth from this leftist hag? and the St. Augustine rag has been leading attacks on conservatives. I hope someone from the Tea Party mentioned responds to this piece of leftist propaganda and posts it at FR>
“Ellen Blais is a retired English teacher”

There, I fixed it..

???Politics!
Too much Florida sun for this Pennsylvania ghost face. She's done melted.
But we always knew the demonization would begin in earnest.
These leftists need to go back to their native states that they have already ruined. The elect Marxists, destroy their states, then retire to states with lower taxes so they can destroy our state by electing Marxists who also moved here from NY, PA or Massachusettes.
Many are moving from Florida to North Carolina NOW. They call the “hal-backs” (halfway back home). I call them parasites, looking for their next host. Look what they are doing to NC. It is DISGUSTING.
Excuse me “half-backs”. (I’m having keyboard issues.)
What was her name again? Ellen BIAS? Yea, they must have
made a typo.
Yep, the mushy-moderate GOP state senator she references is from Chicago.
Still sucking off the public teat in retirement. Ellen Blais (D-umbass) PA, is mad because Scott wanted Detert to vote to end government collecting union dues for private unions. It's beyond me why some Republicans think it's a fine idea to keep the state as a collection agent for union dues.
Oh, shall we check voter registration for Pennsylvania and Florida for the Blais’? Could be interesting if they hate FL Republicans as much as they claim.
2012 DNC/MSM playbook:
1. Race cards and entire race decks.
2. Media control. Radio,TV and Internet.
3. Campaign finance reform tricks.
4. Republicans dissatisfied with current field of GOP candidates weekly stories.
5. Tea Party : Support drops and or they are terrorists, weekly stories.
Oh, Ms. Blias, you are so very....asstoot, aren’t you? So very objective in your educated viewpoints, distilled so finely like a VSOP brandy and bearing the cultural refinement of so many years teaching and observing. We’re lucky, really, to have your special insight on affairs you know so much about.
You have not the slightest shred of evidence that the local Tea Party meeting was funded by the Koch brothers who frankly could care less about you, them, or anything else in your rectally-pinched little sub-universe. But you will repeat that obvious momma’s-basement-teenager meme as if you have some special insight into the way things actually are, when the truth is, you don’t. You don’t actually know shit. What you don’t understand, Ms. Blias, and you will *never* understand, is that the most sophisticated and the most banal criticizers of conservative values have exactly the same arguments. You have, despite your self-assumed sophistication, precisely the same argument(s) as the most flaming goodball idiots on your side. And you have to wonder at some point, if you are making the same statements and the same arguments as the biggest and most obvious idiots and goofballs in the teenage basement-masturbatory universe who happen to take your side of things, exactly what is it that distinguishes you from them?
She has made contributions to Barrack Obama, Paul Wellstone, and Move-On.Org. She has endorsed Ramsey Clarks committees opposing the Iraq War. That is on the first half of the first Google page for her name and ‘professor’.
Right on.
The Tea Party = regular Americans sick of the excessive spending, debt, and taxation. It isn’t hard.
I hope this guy isn’t the brightest bulb at his university. He is severely lacking in understanding when it comes to recognizing the difference between government tyranny and a grassroots struggle for liberty.
Ellen Blais is a retired English teacher and active Communist who propagandized at Mansfield State University in Pennsylvania. She enjoys snuff films and inviting the neighbors over to watch her insert Tupperwear products in her anus and her poor husband is forced to live with her and listen to her deranged rantings about Republicans in St. Augustine six months out of the year (and the other six in Pennsylvania).
Any retard speaking against the Tea Party is well...a retard and a simpleton trying to objectify others as a dolts or intellectual unfortunates.
They are part of a mindset of incrementalism and that is no longer tolerable nor acceptable.
Their term are not valid and not going to be part of any discussion, anymore.
