Otherwise, please enlighten me as to how you would suggest removing 12 million people, and to which countries would you send them using what resources? Operation Wetback DID work, but was a PR nightmare which is why the operation was halted.
A path to citizenship is what McCain-Kennedy-Bush were pushing. It is the definition of amnesty. IOW, you don’t have to leave. We legalize you to stay and work, then give you citizenship after a period of time = Amnesty. Do you not remember 2007?
