How did the housing become dilapidated in the first place?

Man I bought my house 4 years ago, I put in a new fence which I financed and stained myself, the old one was dilapidated.

I later had a hot water heater installed also dilapidated.

I painted the outside myself. the peeling paint made my house look dilapidated.

I trimmed my trees up they were making my house look dilapidated. With all the light coming through I sodded my front yard, it took me a few years because I did it when I had the money and laid the sod myself. My yard looked dilapidated.

I just finished redoing my shower, the tile was cracking and leaking behind the wall causing dilapidation.

Apparently if you don't try to keep you house up, over time it will become dilapidated even to the point of being unlivable.
