I don’t think you’d find too much agreement with the use of the word “dictator” but he wasn’t a great president either. He unilaterally enforced the continuation of an originally voluntary confederation between the states, which they desired to leave when the feds didn’t act in its original spirit. He suspended some Constitutional rights because they were inconvenient. Sorta like FDR with an (R) after his name.

Yup, people forget about that because ole Abe supposedly want to keep the union together, but that's not what started the war.

As usual, it was economics and power and trade that killed all those young boys.

Personally, I believe that any group of people who want to form their own societal compact, have the right to do so, no matter how small. As I mentioned in this thread or another, any State that wants to secede from the Union should be allowed to, especially now that the Fedgov is becoming more intrusive in our lives.
