Sarah is dividing our front. She is toast. Breaks my heart, I was holding out for her till I saw her betray us on Greta tonight.
Hate to say it, but I know an 8th grade girl who posts drama-queen stuff like that on Facebook. It's funny when she does it; but far less amusing when adults do it.
The fact is that politics is not a clean profession. Given its nature -- to forge agreement among people who disagree with each other -- it absolutely cannot be.
Politics is about creating coalitions to move things vaguely in the direction you want them to go. In a democracy you cannot succeed unless you work with people who don't fully share your goals and ideals. You have to make deals, and you have to make nice with those who can help you achieve your goals, in return for helping them achieve their goals.
I am very far from being a supporter of Sarah Palin, but what she's doing here makes excellent political sense. The political calculus says that she gains more by supporting McCain, who has a network of connections and supporters who can be counted upon to reciprocate when the time comes for Palin to call in the favors.
I'll be honest and tell you that as a general rule I don't really trust Palin's motives; but here, at least, I understand them.
