U.S. Marine Walks Away From Shot to Helmet in Afghanistan (St. Michael's Protection)
WSJ ^ | 2/15/2010 | Michael M. Phillips

Posted on 02/16/2010 12:40:42 PM PST by Pyro7480

It is hard to know whether Monday was a very bad day or a very good day for Lance Cpl. Andrew Koenig.

On the one hand, he was shot in the head. On the other, the bullet bounced off him.

In one of those rare battlefield miracles, an insurgent sniper hit Lance Cpl. Koenig dead on in the front of his helmet, and he walked away from it with a smile on his face....

The only injury: A small, numb red welt on his forehead, just above his right eye....

Gunnery Sgt. Shelton, a 36-year-old veteran from Nashville, said he had never seen a Marine survive a direct shot to the head.

But next to him was Cpl. Christopher Ahrens, who quietly mentioned that two bullets had grazed his helmet the day the Marines attacked Marjah. The same thing, he said, happened to him three times in firefights in Iraq.

Cpl. Ahrens, 26, from Havre de Grace, Md., lifted the camouflaged cloth cover on his helmet, exposing the holes where the bullets had entered and exited.

He turned it over to display the picture card tucked inside, depicting Michael the Archangel stamping on Lucifer's head. "I don't need luck," he said.

Why is it that God’s protection is not considered, but rather some “St.” that ostensibly has powers similar to God

This is just silly. Angels don't "have powers similar to God", they have powers that God gives them. Period, full stop, end of story.

"God's protection is not considered"?? Do you not understand the concept of an agent or a deputy acting on behalf of someone else? That would seem to be a pretty basic idea for a "grownup" to grasp.

And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon ... -- Rev 12:7

Was the author of Revelation guilty of "unbelievable idolatry" because he said "Michael and his angels fought with the dragon" instead of "God fought with the dragon"?

You should spend more time getting familiar with your Bible and less time trashing Catholics on FR. JMHO.

One of my friends has sent over Psalm 91 Bandannas for her son’s platoon in Afghanistan. Lots of Marines wear them either in their helmets or just carry them. When a shipment is received they go fast.

A good friend of both of ours received his and put it on immediately, 3 days later he was hit by and IED, miraculously he survived, he still suffers from TBI but seems to be on the mend.

"Its understood that God sends down Saints to look after us...

Here is my point...you may think this is understood because it is peddled by Rome. But, the Scriptures do not support this kind of nonsense. It is both idolotrous and ridiculous. If you are a believer, you are a saint. The ground is all level at the foot of the cross. The saints (the hagios, the holy ones clothed in Jesus' righteousness) don't come back to rescue people.

Rome should stop teaching the kind of error that you display here. And, they should repent...if they can.

The Headline said it was about "St. Michael" but the text said it was about "Michael the Archangel".

"St. Michael" and "Michael the Archangel" are one and the same being. "Saint" simply means "holy".

You may think this is understood because it is peddled by Geneva, but the Scriptures do not support this kind of nonsense.

Wow, the Catholic haters are starting early this year.
It’s only Fat Tuesday, normally they wait until Lent.

Which is one of the reasons why I give up FR for the season. My resentment of these posters runs high and it keeps me out of the confessional to ‘avoid the near occasion of sin’.

Have you read the Bible? Did David kill Goliath? Or God? Or did David kill Goliath by the power of God?

Did John the Baptist baptize Jesus? Or did God baptize Jesus? Or did John the Baptist baptize Jesus by the power of God?

I could go on all day but I just chose the most obvious.

Coincidentally, I am reading Faith of the American Soldier.

It is hard to put down and I am learning much.

They aren’t starting early, they just never stop. I’ve seen this guy, he seems to make a hobby of it.

Wow.

Ugly, ugly on this thread.

Seems to me there’s more of the evil one here than there is goodness and light.

You are right: I don’t belong here. Not my kind of folks.

No! No! It’s intercession{Pray} . Did Peter Have His own Anointing When He told the Man to walk, no God used him as an instrument of his Anointing. He Said In the name of Jesus to walk to a non believer. This Soldier obviously already believes in Christ. When He says for the” Archangel Michael to Protect Us” God Knows what he means. God is honored that he Remmebers HIS ANGEL. HIS ANGEL!! JESUS CHRIST who is Divinity in the flesh. -1john 4 which every Catholic Declares every Sunday in the Profession Of the Nicene Creed -Which also declares we are not a cult so stopping buying into Old time anti-catholic retoric . May God BLESS YOU AND HELP YOU

"God Knows what he means."

With all due respect, this kind of clawing around to find justification for something that is not right, relying on God to "know what he means" could justify anything.

Well, I believe what the Scriptures teach. And that trumps believing the superstitions that Rome tells me to believe.

Doesn't Scripture teach us that the angel Michael does God's bidding? Does the archangel Michael who lived in Heaven and did God's bidding in the Old (Daniel) and New (Jude and Revelations) Testaments no longer serve as the instrument of God's will?
