It is hard to know whether Monday was a very bad day or a very good day for Lance Cpl. Andrew Koenig.
On the one hand, he was shot in the head. On the other, the bullet bounced off him.
In one of those rare battlefield miracles, an insurgent sniper hit Lance Cpl. Koenig dead on in the front of his helmet, and he walked away from it with a smile on his face....
The only injury: A small, numb red welt on his forehead, just above his right eye....
Gunnery Sgt. Shelton, a 36-year-old veteran from Nashville, said he had never seen a Marine survive a direct shot to the head.
But next to him was Cpl. Christopher Ahrens, who quietly mentioned that two bullets had grazed his helmet the day the Marines attacked Marjah. The same thing, he said, happened to him three times in firefights in Iraq.
Cpl. Ahrens, 26, from Havre de Grace, Md., lifted the camouflaged cloth cover on his helmet, exposing the holes where the bullets had entered and exited.
He turned it over to display the picture card tucked inside, depicting Michael the Archangel stamping on Lucifer's head. "I don't need luck," he said.

The last sentance gave me chills. I gave hubby a Saint George medal before he left for that crappy country.
You didn’t read the article, did you? Man, that must be embarrassing.
Why?
I purchased an Archangel Michael medal for my friend’s son when he was deployed to Afghanistan. He swears it kept him safe.
Do you an angel is? God’s servant. Michael is the guardian angel of the Jewish people, and the word means,” He who is like God.”
God is watching out for you Marine......
Wow! Liked the reference to St. Michael. The FoxNews URL makes no such reference. Thanks
Amen and thank God.
Well, the medal itself has no “magical” properties. It’s a sacramental, “holy things or actions of which the Church makes use to obtain for us from God, through her intercession, spiritual and temporal favors....Persons may sin in using Sacramentals by using them in a way or for a purpose prohibited by the Church; also by believing that the use of Sacramentals will save us in spite of our sinful lives. We must remember that Sacramentals can aid us only through the blessing the Church gives them and through the good dispositions they excite in us. They have, therefore, no power in themselves, and to put too much confidence in their use leads to superstition.” (Baltimore Catechism)
Thank you for posting but now my monitor is a blurry!
Its a forum. Everybody gets to state their opinion, and you can ignore or argue as you wish. But telling someone to go away is hateful, an indication that only you get to say your piece and that everyone else should shut up.
So, if youre going to be a good Catholic and a good Christian, act like one and mind your manners.
Jedidah: You are either to ignorant to understand, or deliberately refusing to acknowledge, that laws protecting free speech are NOT made to protect politically correct, good feeling, non-divisive, universally agreed upon speech.
Instead, free speech laws were meant to protect people from people like YOU - YOU who would slander those who speak what you disagree with, and YOU seek to silence them because of that disagreement. THAT is TRUE "hate speech" - as in, you hate someone's speech, and so you seek to silence them.
YOU are the death of free speech. YOU are the death of freedom. And if anyone should be silenced, it should be YOU, because YOU are using your free speech not only as a weapon to deprive someone else of free speech, but also to slander their character and their religion. So WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHUT UP AND GO AWAY.
And while you're at it, also SHUT UP about being Catholic or Christian, because you are not a Catholic or Christian - Catholics and Christians do not assume authority to silence people, or attempt to use their religious affiliation as a scornful, spitting weapon of contempt, as you have.
Oh and one more thing - get your hypocritical, totalitarian liberal butt out of here. This is a conservative website, and you and your opinions are already PRE-BANNED for their abusiveness, abject stupidity and hate.
St. Michael Archangel,
defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan,
and all evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..
That prayer is said at the end of every Mass in the war zones.
Beautiful. I sent St Michael prayer cards in packages to soldiers, if I knew one or more was Catholic.
The Holy Bible tells of angels, archangels, cherubim and seraphim.
Well, I know what a sentence is, and that is not one.
The Headline said it was about "St. Michael" but the text said it was about "Michael the Archangel". One or the other is wrong, even for the bad theology of Rome. If it was Michael the Archangel, then whether he was protecting the Cpl. (not Capt., my mistake) or not, it is not appropriate for us to have prayers, icons, or other material looking to help from other beings.
We'll put Mary in the that same group. No mariolatry, no Saint Hopscotch, no anyone. We look to our rescue from the Godhead, alone. Of course, Rome will flip over this because it diminishes their superstitions and control. Too bad.
