Hoffman was just being polite

He was lying and going back on his word politely? Fascinating.

GOP leaders were outraged, especially since Mr. Hoffman, like other congressional hopefuls, had pledged to support the nominee. “He did say it repeatedly,” said Sandra Corey, the former GOP chairwoman of Jefferson County. “And then all of a sudden, it's a no-go, like he hadn't understood her background, which is a falsehood. I would never, ever trust him.”

He said it repeatedly? In less than 2 days? Please. That email and maybe a phone call were the only communication I bet.

I saw that quote, but of course he didn’t pledge to support her, he pledged to support the republican nominee, and he’s explained that he never thought they’d pick her.

So yes, he is breaking his pledge. We kicked a good man out of our republican party committee one year because, having promised not to run for a school board position if he didn’t get the republican endorsement, when he didn’t get it he cried foul and ran anyway, making it harder for the person we did endorse to win the race.

But in that case, it wasn’t about the other candidate being too liberal.

BTW, every candidate who runs for office in a primary is asked to sign pledges of support for the eventual nominee. Joe Lieberman signed a pledge when he ran for the democratic primary, and when he lost he ran as an independent, breaking that pledge.

It’s pretty standard procedure, and nothing a newspaper would normally make a big deal about, but it was a legitimate issue.

However, DeDe shows her ignorance when she uses this e-mail to make a point. The e-mail didn’t pledge her anything, it just told he to ask if she needed anything.

My guess is that DeDe never asked for anything. And right now, he IS helping her, to keep her place in the Senate by running against her for Congress.

Is this your support? Didn’t you just post that it was a followup to written support? Where is that documentation?

Once again...what’s a nominee hopeful supposed to say? “If I’m not nominated I will not support anyone other than myself.”

Fact is...you remain polite and hopeful and AFTER the RNC makes their decision you can make yours.

I’ve said I would always vote republican, but I guess that makes me a liar because the way they have been acting I’m thinking 3rd party on some races.
