mccain actually filibustered Bush’s medicare part d expansion and opposed ethanol subsidies even though he knew he would automatically lose Iowa right from the start.
so he had a pretty good record until he threw it all away with the bailout. Even Coburn voted for that thing.

Good points, but you forgot amnesty which was his cause and worse amnesty with a democrat congress.

“Unaware of what Sarah Palin stands for and what she as done in elected office”

Come on, she didn’t even serve one complete term as governor. She did a lot of good things and Bush also did a lot of good things.
However, I’m not terribly impressed by her ACES tax system and her Hannity interview (link below), especially when she talked about the AIG bailout.

“Who I supported in the most recent GOP primaries is irrelevant, (’none of the above’, since you’re so nosy), to your misrepresenting and slandering Sarah Palin.”

Uh, forget Tina Fey, your statement above that auntb is misrepresenting and slandering Palin is bull$hit.

““Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants? Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America.””

This is a matter of public record, and I believe most FReepers have read it. Alaska has very few illegal immigrants, so Sarah doesn’t have a clue as to the damage they have caused out west, and in the south. Now, she may have retracted this position, but if she did, it was not because she understands illegal immigration, and I will never completely trust her on this.

ah the whole amnesty thing. The other part of bush’s “compassionate conservatism.”

apparently alaska has 2 sanctuary cities, Anchorage and Fairbanks and even more remarkable:
In May 2003, Alaska’s state legislature passed a joint resolution prohibiting state agencies from using resources or institutions for the purpose of enforcing federal immigration laws.

So it is definitely an issue in Alaska.

It may be an issue, but Alaska only has a handful of illegal immigrants....internet sources like the fed say less than 10,000 in the whole state. That Palin did nothing about “santuary cities” is a bad sign.

To try amnesty with a democrat congress is unforgiveable. In fact I bet at that point McCain wished it would go away.

“No one defended Palin against unwarranted attacks more than I have.”

So have I, but I stand by my assertion that Palin is inexperienced with illegals, has only a few thousand in her home state, and backed amnesty. I don’t want to hear from anyone who says she was under McCain’s thumb. If she had stated” I am against amnesty for lawbreakers, so John McCain and I have agreed to disagree. That is what makes our party a big tent” , or something to that effect, It might have increased our turnout.

Absolutely! IF she is pro amnesty and anti enforcement, she’s going against most of her base. And we need to know, instead of guessing.

I take her for what she is now. She is sick and tired of all the attacks against her family so she’s out of politics. That’s not a gimmick to show she’s ‘out of the beltway.’ Those attacks were vile and she knows they’ll come back if she tries to go back in again.

She’s now destroying obamacare in a way Rush and others cannot because she has unique appeal. She’s doing a great job at what she is doing now. Why do people try to make her into something she’s not?

You guys are singing quite a Romneyesque duet here. Sarah Palin has stated her position, and you don't need to edit the parts that don't fit your position or candidate, SJB. Thanks for the opportunity, though.

Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals

Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?
A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant--there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants--not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.

Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?
A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

If you think you helped you cause by including more of the interview, you are sadly mistaken. Tossing Romney at me is
laughable. I have nothing but contempt for the man, and my posting history will attest to same.

I said it was Romneyesque.

I read it all, and we don't agree on it's message. I would love to see all illegals go home, but it ain't going to happen. We live in a real world, not Fantasyland. In case you haven't noticed, we have a Communist in the White House, surrounded by Communists. We are on the edge of a possible/probable revolution.

How would you handle things differently than how Sarah Palin has actually done, so far? Would you have been able to bring down the entrenched political elite in Alaska? Would you have gotten a sweet deal for your constituents, over a powerful oil company?

I am no armchair quarterback. I live and work in West Virginia. Around here, I drive by a lot of McCain/Palin signs that are still up today. In local gossip, they admit it is to recognize Sarah Palin, not McPain. Many have blotted out his name.

In Northern Virgina, where I also work, I see many there, as well. I see lots of car stickers with Palin 2012. That is a bastion of liberal folk, and so many gum't employees.

I agree with most, if not all, of what I have seen actually quoted or written by her. I signed onto her Facebook page a couple months ago, when there were a mere 600,000 or so supporters there. As of now, there are:
849,149 supporters signed up at her site as of a few minutes ago.
847,033 Sarah Palin Facebook supporters -as of 11:55 am EDT... yesterday!

I just have nobody else I would rather help elect as our next President, at this time. But, she is simply posting and writing, right now. Her war chest has doled out to such as McCain and Graham, so as to qualify her pac by the FEC. I have little in common for those guys, but she isn't in charge of the money (PAC rules, ya' know!). I fell confident that, in the end, Sarah's goal of helping elect others will only help get her where she can really make some changes!

Illegals will self deport if you enforce the LAW! In Arizona, we passed a law that if you hire an illegal, and are caught, you pay a huge fine. You are required to direct check, or use “E-Verify”. If you are caught a second time, you will be driven out of business. Illegals are disappearing here by the 10’s of thousands. They are either going to California, some other state, or going home. The ACLU is going rip-$hit crazy over this law because it is so effective. There are many apartment buildings offering 2-3 months free rent if you sign up for a year. This is because so many illegals are unable to find work, so they left. Don’t fall for that crap about “we can’t send em home” Arizona PROVED that they will send themselves home!

Some will. Many will not. Not all illegals are Hispanic.

We still have 50 states. We still have Obama as President. This is September 1, 2009, and the President has started us down the road to serfdom. Yet, you are quibbling about this woman's stance on your pet issue. Sorry, I'd prefer to back a winner. I see nobody else speaking LOUDLY for the vast majority of CONSERVATIVES. And, she does it with her postings on Facebook! Hah! Zero is even quoting her!

FRiend, we are on the same side. I will stand with her on her stated positions, and fight against our common enemy. We must have somebody to defeat the Obama machine. It starts with Sarah, IMHO. Your mileage may differ.

I'm glad AZ is doing something. Sheriff Joe is a Knight. But, AZ is one of 50 states, and the goal is to take back the Congress in 2010, and the White House in 2012! It's already begun!

Excerpts from TammyBruce.com

"Enter now Sarah Palin with very encouraging comments that lead one to believe that she is indeed planning to do what she must: build an independent conservative movement and take this nation back from the liberals which now control both parties. Thanks liberals, for provoking Sarah into the national scene while vetting that family at the same time.

One thing I will say, the Washington Times with their headline for this exclusive interview reveal an anti-Palin stance. She is, don’t doubt, a threat to every existing political status quo. I hope the Washington Times and their editors realize, sooner than later, that the Palin movement is unstoppable and their credibility would be saved simply by reporting the news instead of becoming a GOP version of the NYT.
