How much damage did Arthur do to the country? I freely admit I know almost next to nothing about him. The founding fathers intrigue me.

I don't know much about him either. I don't know that he
did anything wrong. I recall reading that he didn't run aggressively for president after completing most of James Garfield's term, and failed to get the nomination because he knew he would not live much longer; I don't recall the illness.
