That’s the amended constitution. The original 1963 constitution made no mention of “republic” at all. I examined it here: http://www.constitutionnet.org/files/KEL63-002.pdf
If — that’s IF — that doc is the entire original, you can search high and low and not find the word “republic” in it. I also looked, all day, at various places, at ebay and other merchant sites for Kenyan stamps and currency, at newspaperarchive.org for contemporary references, at Google images, you name it I was in it, and I couldn’t find anything.*
That’s not to say the words “Republic of Kenya” could not have been on official paperwork in Feb ‘64. Stranger things have I seen. But we need to round up some 45-year-old Kenyans to confirm it because there’s nothing on the internet.
*Ok, one place I didn’t go...genealogy sites. I’ve taken the pledge, no genealogical research. :)
Did you see the Republic of Kenya 1964 stamps up thread? Unless they printed the stamps in the last two weeks of the year.
