If you typed quickly, you could outrun the motion of the carriage, and two letters would be printed close together.

Typing fast would also get them hung up with each other and you'd have to stop and untangle them.

BAHH!! I had forgotten about that messy little hold up. Ugh trying to get those buggers untangled and getting ribbon ink all over your hands (and usually your face that you don’t see until 2 hours later in the restroom mirror)
