Typewriters of that era had pica and elite font sizes, but fonts or typefaces were matters for printers, not typists. Most typewritten text looked pretty much the same, at least to me. The Taitz document typeface and font size look very, very similar to the output of my first manual typewriter. Some individual letters in the document, especially the capital A, are dark and smudged, which was a good sign of neglecting to clean the accumulated dried ink out the striking heads of the typebars.
The only equipment that a forger would need to create this document would be an old typewriter and (preferably) an old pre-printed birth registration document. By using an old typewriter instead of a computer, the forger would avoid worries about incorrect fonts/typefaces.
If Dan Rather's forger had just used an old IBM Selectric, it would have been much harder to discredit the CBS forgeries.
