It’s a monospace font. In those days, it was called “Pica” and I believe it became “Courier” later on. It looks very similar to today’s Courier. The type was produced most certainly with a ribbon, not a film cartridge. The latter left a perfectly even letter image. Darker and lighter areas mean inked ribbons that ran from one spool to another.
