Given they knew it was coming for some time and had Stamps printed up already I think it quite likely. I am not saying you are wrong OR right. But it is VERY likely that this is what they would have used. The United States wasn’t an official Nation till 1778 when the Constitution was ratified. I might be missing the date a bit, but it had official documents that stated that it was the United States from 1776 on. There is historical Precedent.
We will know more when the Documents are accepted by the Court.

The Constitution was ratified in 1788, although it had been passed by the Convention and sent to the states in 1787, but the nation was still called the United States of America under the old Articles of Confederation.
In fact past the preamble, the first Article read:
ARTICLE I. The style of this Confederacy shall be "The United States of America." It was a 1781 document.
