Interesting, they used a tax service who either didn't know how to do taxes or cheated. See table 2 (center column) on page 22. The tax on $4250-4300 for a joint return was $211, but they entered only $102 on line 16. The IRS didn't catch that?

And btw, where was 3 year old Maya? Did the Dunhams also claim her as a dependent?

Not enough facts are known to determine that but it is consistent with either:

1. Maya, a dual US/Indonesian citizen being claimed by Dunhams due to residing with them and being their dependent while Ann was pursuing her Ph.D. Maya (and Barry) could only be claimed as a dependent on one return.

2. Maya being left back in Indonsesia with the in-laws.

Again, as with Barry, NOT having Maya on the tax return does NOT mean certain loss of custody or nationality for either Maya and/or Barry.
