He would have given it all up, even his life, to be free from the Federal Yankee government, in an independent Confederate Nation.

And when he blew his chance, instead of divorcing himself from that country he carried such hatred for, he went meekly back to living under that Yankee government. It's kind of funny that any U.S. loving Innes Randolph living in your new confederacy would be locked up, jailed without charge, and either left there to rot or deported to the U.S. Or so your confederate compatriots would have us believe.

I think that is what YOU really would have done to all Rebs post CW, YOU would have wanted those things done; hang 'em all. Projection. Maybe the fictional Jose Wales was right then, you shouldn't give up, ever. Got it Yank, lesson learned. Thanks for the insight.
