'Try something new today ...' blundering Sainsbury's gives booklet on sex positions to 8/yos
The Daily Mail ^ | 12th November 2008 | Andrew Levy

Posted on 11/12/2008 6:13:22 PM PST by Daffynition

They probably expected a goody bag of some sorts as a going home gift after the primary school trip to Sainsbury's.

But what the 42 children - not to mention their parents and teachers - did not expect was to be given a book with explicit illustrations of sexual positions.

And the advice under the dozen drawings, which feature in a section about saving water by 'bathing with a friend', reads: 'Save water. Have fun. Just get out before everything becomes wrinkled.'

Other inappropriate suggestions in the £5 book from Sainsbury's - whose advertising slogan is Try Something New Today - include encouraging readers to shave in intimate places, streaking, talking to strangers and handing out your phone number to five people on the street.

The book, entitled How To Change The World For £5, was mistakenly given to the Year 4 pupils, aged between eight and nine, from Burton End primary, Suffolk, during a visit to the supermarket in Haverhill.

The blunder came to light only when a father heard his daughter giggling with friends as they flicked through the pages.

Engineer Andrew Dodd, 37, whose daughter Laura is eight, said: 'I was furious. It was extremely inappropriate and irresponsible to give to children.

'On the "Having Fun in the Bath" pages there were little drawings of about 12 sexual positions.

'But the worst bit was where it encouraged you to go and talk to strangers. It's the opposite message to what you should be giving to kids. I don't think the school realised what was in the book.

'The teachers were as horrified as we were when they saw it.

'Laura thought it was funny but thankfully she didn't really understand it.'

Good ol’ Sainsbury’s. Tesco has really done them in. They USED to be the ‘one stop yuppy shop’. Not any more.

It could have been worse. They could have got that popular Caldecott book winner:

The Pop-up Book of Human Anatomy

Did they include the Obama position? That’s the one where the taxpayer is always at the bottom of the stack.

'Laura thought it was funny but thankfully she didn't really understand it.'

A seed has been planted. And schools do push the sex positive agenda. The proponents seek to see everyone sexually active at every age. They consider it a birthright and oppose abstinence because they believe it to be a supression of sexual desires.

'The books were given to store staff by head office because they mentioned the company's positive environmental activities.

"It's for the environment" telling people to bathe together to "save water". That's an even weaker answer than Barack Obama's "that's above my paygrade".

'A few spare copies were left over in the store which were given as presents to the visiting children.

And then:

It also produces children's version of How To Change The World For £5 which is called Teach Your Granny to Text and has been sent to primary schools across the country.

So while this was the "adult" version, there is one that targets children. And what "zany" suggestions does it make?

http://www.wearewhatwedo.org/news/display.php?id=1419

Erica Ritchie, aged 10, who contributed the title action "Teach your granny to text" explains where her idea came from: "It's nice for grandparents and children to keep in touch in an easier way than e-mail and writing a letter and quicker and cheaper than a phone call - especially if they live far away like mine!"

So how does "texting" save the planet anymore than calling, emailing, or even writing a postcard (electricity hurts the earth too and your letter goes on the fridge to be enjoyed again and again).

Then there's this one:

Omar Bynon, aged 11, who came up with the action "speak football" says: "Me and my family went on holiday to Tanzania and I saw some boys outside our hotel kicking a sponge wrapped in plastic like it was a ball. I had a football with me so I took it down so that we could all kick it round.

"Every day when I came back to the hotel the boys were waiting for me to play football. With a ball you can make new friends even though they don’t speak the same language."

Need I point out that this book is the brainchild of a 25-year community organizer?

It seems that there was a modest amount of embarrassment, not outrage. We’ve become dumb downed and immune to these atrocities. This garbage can stay in the UK.

Why is it, do you think, that schools want to play the role of sex educator in children’s lives? Why do they see sex as a birthright? I’ve never heard about that before.
