As for the “song” by Randolph Innes, I think he was looking for something to rhyme. It would have been more appropriate if he would have said in some way that he hated the “Yankee Interpretation” of the Constitution. But he was a very bitter soldier.

So where is he trying to rhyme Constitution or Declaration of Independence with anything? Nice try, but I think the screed speaks for itself. Innes Randolph hated the United States and everything having anything to do with it. But, like so many other ex-rebs then and since, he didn't hate it enough to actually up and leave the it.

A lot of them DID leave it.
But many more of them stayed, but still felt they were right. My ancestors were among the latter.
