State GOP strapped but not broke
Denver Post ^ | 06/24/2007 | Julia C. Martinez

The state Republican Party is hurting for cash. Federal financial disclosures as of April 30 showed the party was $261,907 in debt. A filing with the secretary of state a month earlier showed $11,310.51 in the bank.

Republican insiders said party officials are trying to renegotiate payment on contracts and searching for cheaper offices.

New party chairman Dick Wadhams acknowledged that he inherited debt when he took office in March ...

But reconnecting with the party's activist base and with state lawmakers after back-to-back legislative defeats was his first task. Since March, he has made 60 speeches to rally the troops, which could help raise money.

Wadhams blames campaign finance reform for some of the party's problems. "We have a process where candidates and parties are absolutely hamstrung while 527s and millionaires run rough- shod over the process,"

This reminds me of the old story. International pet food company had a convention. President says in his speech: “We have the best research dept of any company, we have the newest most efficient manufacturing equipment, and we have the largest most well trained sales force in the world. Now why aren’t we selling any dogfood?”

One of the salesman from the south got up and said, “The doooooogs don’t like it.”

Thank one of your own, Wadhams - McCain, who viewed yesterdays' SCOUS decision on CFR as "...regretful....".

This is so true. Especially in Colorado. The left passed a CFR initiative here a few years ago that guts the ability of the R party to raise money (not the D's--because there's a union exception in the CFR). All that's left on the right are the 527's. And those folks are not conservatives. They are chamber-of-commerce types. The horrible missteps of the Owens administration were driven by the money.

It was an initiative accompanied with a lot of lies by Common Cause, a huge amount of money from labor unions, and a population weary of negative campaigning. It was sold as a way to stop negative campaigning. LOL. By gutting the parties and empowering the 527's it did the exact opposite.

Colorado is gone until it is repealed and I don't see that happeninig anytime soon. I am looking around for other places to live after my Dad passes on. The left will take Colorado down the toilet within ten years, even though the population is not particularly left-wing. But there's just way too much money rooting for the bad-guys. We get outspent 5-1 and 10-1 in the senate and house races.

“Rally the Troops”

Thats a good one.

After a few years of being kicked to the curb by the GOP I’ve started sending in “Jorge Dollers”.

Now my policy is “show me first”. Only then will I send money.

Right now one rat hole is about as good as the other.

We support individual candidates and various issues. No more money for the general fund .

I’ve stopped donating, too. I figure the illegal aliens can make the contributions. But trustworthy individual Republicans will get my cash.
