Im very proud to announce that today I have become a citizen of the United States! About 16 years ago my parents left or sold everything they owned and came to America with the intention of giving my sisters and I a better life...

I came across this on Planet Ubuntu, a blog aggregator for Ubuntu Linux related blogs, but you can also find the original
here if it already slid off this end of the page due to the frequent new updates. I use, and greatly enjoy Ubuntu's Linux distro and heartily recommend it to anyone wanting to see just how "ready" Linux is. The Ubuntu community can occasionally get a little heavy with the "Ubuntu Means People" hippie tripe (getting better in this respect) and Planet Ubuntu itself is occasionally visited by off-topic anti-American Euro-weenies, but this environment is what made this particular post so striking.

I think we're ok.......
I did a quick scan of the linked text for the words moose and cheese and the results were negative.
OTOH, they could be using a DU filter.

I looked at it.....this comment to him pizzed me off so much I nearly registered to speak my piece....
“America is not only the USA. America is the name of a whole continent; from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego and its a bit offensive the way you (and many other US citizens) calls themselves Americans. Remember that you are not the only ones living in this beautiful continent.”

I looked at it.....this comment to him pizzed me off so much I nearly registered to speak my piece....Eh, technically he has a point. The common use of the word by we, well, Americans, has superceded its actual more accurate definition as an occupant of the continent.
Chalk it up to a grouse that wants to bitch, but can't really find anything else in the uplifting story to grasp onto.

Welcome my fellow American.
One question. What is our national language?

This is the United States of America.......the ONLY country in the world with “America” in its name.
My Nationality is American, my residency is in one of those United States.
There is no North, Central, or South American nationality, period. They are messican, chileans, venezuelans, whatever.....western hemispherians, for all I care, but NOT Americans just because they wanna say so.....

Its Spanish, only we don’t yet know it. Ask the Chappaquiddick Swimmer.

He is wrong. North and South America are collectively called “The Americas” but it’s two continents, not one.

Look pal, you completely failed to understand what I was saying in the other thread. You failed to grasp the concept of emphasis vs, deception, you confused an editorial with a news piece. Additionally, you have insulted me on numerous occasions and now you continue to do so.
I have no interest in talking to someone who fails to grasp simple facts, and then has the audacity to claim it is I that am not comprehending what was said.
Grow up and go away. Do not copy me in on any of you tiresome rants. That is out of line and childish.
