It is conceivable that the Administration deluded themselves into thinking that democracy could be planted in Iraq, and thus lead us into a quagmire. This is certainly a better, more intelligent argument than "BUSH LIED!".
The problem is that nobody really knew how hard the Iraqi people would fight for their own freedoms. It was an honest assertion that the Iraqi people wanted to be free and most Iraqis would fight for that freedom. It is disingenuous to claim that this was a delusion from the start.
“It was an honest assertion that the Iraqi people wanted to be free and most Iraqis would fight for that freedom.”
Muslims don’t want freedom. They want to live in slavery under an Islamic theocracy. Just look at who they vote for whenever they get a chance to vote. Even the majority of Turkish Muslims want to live under an Islamic theocracy. Only their constitution, backed by the power of the military, has prevented an Islamic theocracy from coming to power.
And we had no idea how hard the left would stand up for despotism and how much they’d apologize for the Islamists.
Agreed, but the new "War Czar" crap makes me think there is delusion now.
Sure, it's not like there was 50 years of palistinian-Isreal conflict and the total failure of the palestinian people to form any sort or reasonable (sane) government. Or even simply come to the conclusion that killing the infidels was getting them no where. Add this non-example of a potential problem with all the middle eastern societies that successfully formed Republics on the back of islam over the past 5 decades. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't believe allowing the Iraqii's to write their own constitution wouldn't be a smashing success either.
Yes, you are totally correct, even the most detailed pre-invasion analysis ever performed could never have anticipated the problem of an islamic people being incapable of governing themselves. It was inconcievable before now and disingenuous to suggest otherwise. Yea, that's the ticket.
This is why, even with 60-70 percent of Americans wanting out of Iraq, the anti-war kooks will never have a real following. They can't stop shouting long enough for anyone to understand their point.
It was an honest assertion that the Iraqi people wanted to be free and most Iraqis would fight for that freedom. It is disingenuous to claim that this was a delusion from the start.
It's possible to have honest delusions.
