DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

What do you expect when a certain group tries to push a LIBERAL candidate on a conservative website?

This is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of what will happen if JulieAnnie is nominated. He has SPLIT FreeRepublic WIDE OPEN,,,,,and he will do the EXACTLY the same to the Republican Party in '08. He has WAY TOO MANY positions TOTALLY out of sync with the base.

Maybe he can win with a fractured Party,,,maybe not. But I would bet heavily against ANY Republican winning with the Party split in two.

I believe that Newt and Mr. Thompson are in talks with the Romney or other campaigns for the VP slot.

Maybe so.

If “WideAwakes” ISN’T an anti-FReep site, then why are they all there? What does that site offer them that FR doesn’t? At least the “DarwinCentral” crowd can make the argument that it was started to focus more on their anti-Christian scientific theories.

You're kidding, right? I thought you were smarter than this and could figure it out.

Over there posters don't have to put up with being called Rutards, old hags, Desperate Housewives, be accused of "needing a good lay", be exposed to constant spam, etc. FR used to have rules but they are clearly being ignored and not enforced, and that can only be happening because the word came down to let the forum fight it out. And some people don't like that kind of fighting.

What is truly amazing about some of the Rudy boosters is how they deny their own posts that they have made.

Of course, we can now expect the Clintonisque parsing of what they truly meant by those posts. Along with a bunch of rationalization about how they aren't really dragging down the forum with such posts.

Just for the record, I don’t take posts where people are called “bots” very seriously.

Ahhh what a visual Veronica, sticking your fingers in your ears, closing your eyes and screaming "NYAH NYAH NYAH, CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!!!"

OK, you don't like the term 'bots', how about LIBERAL RINO SCUM?!?

There have been sites like that in the past and I can assure you that WideAwakes is not an anti-Freep site.

I'm sure any such forum that has a hidden backroom is purely on the up-and-up.

“I submit that if Hillary gets elected, it will be primarily because there was no clear choice in direction to be made between candidates.”

Agreed.

Both are pro abortion.

Both support banning firearms.

Neither will sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge http://friendsofatr.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Both are pro gay marriage.

What’s the difference?

This is the difference:

Rudi Giuliani, April 3, 2007

GIULIANI: We have to -- we have to try and get Iraq to a position where it acts as a -- as a help to us against terrorism, rather than an encourager of terrorism.

The strategy of being on offense against terrorism, which I would continue if I was elected as president, and maybe even try to find ways to expand in terms of dealing with Afghanistan, Pakistan, some of the other things, I think these things have to get attention. Iran, we've got to stay on offense.

Hillary Clinton, April 3, 2007

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Tuesday criticized President Bush for his plan to veto a measure setting a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

"This is vetoing the will of the American people," Clinton said. "It is time for us to get them out of the middle of this sectarian civil war."

So, GWB, you ran off to "daddy" to complain about my post...like the 5 year old you are.

To anyone who has observed the brownshirts who now seem to have overrun FR, it's clear that the current environment is even more toxic than in past election cycles because the nuts now have the sympathy, full-blessing, and the empowerment of the ownership.

In reading the arguments of the Caucus of the Angry, the purists, the "true conservatives" here on FR, in assessing their tone and behavior in their interaction with others, we need to conclude that what we’re seeing here isn’t evidence of a political ideology; what we’re seeing is evidence of a personality disorder. Consider:

The Caucus of the Angry, generally, consistently exhibits certain character traits --

-- Perfectionism
-- Inflexibility
-- Stridency and argumentativeness
-- Impracticality/detachment from reality
-- A tendency to view the world from the perspective of the ideal, and inability to consider practical alternatives
-- Aggressiveness
-- Narrow viewpoint and the inability and unwillingness to consider other viewpoints
-- Inability to see the big picture
-- Elitism, and a tendency to consider only their position as being the “right” one
-- Rigidity and the inability to accommodate, compromise, or exhibit flexibility
-- Judgmentalism and defensiveness
-- Lack of civility
-- Negativity
-- A preference to destroy what they disagree with rather than build on previous progress
-- Inability to focus on an overall goal and to work cooperatively with others toward that goal
-- Individuality, to the point of personal isolation

Interestingly enough, these character traits are found in extremists of every stripe, left as well as right. These character traits seem to be common to extremists, independent of ideology, which is why their behavior and attitudes are symptomatic of a personality disorder rather than a political philosophy. In fact, many of these traits closely parallel the symptoms of Paranoid Personality Disorder as identified by the American Psychiatric Association (see http://mentalhelp.net/poc/view_doc.php?type=doc&id=569&cn=8 for confirming information).

FR has some great people on it. Unfortunately, it also has some rude and infantile morons. Sadly, the morons seem to have the run of the place.

Because of my public support here for Rudy Giuliani, I'm surprised I haven't been banned yet. So, I'll save the Mods the work of monitoring my posts for some "banning offense," and simply ask that they delete my account at FreeRepublic. I don't want to be associated with this site any longer.
