Now that the Democrats swayed the independent/moderates, who mostly support the war, and won the elections, they are pandering to the most extreme left of their electorate.

We are too close to '08 for them to alienate that part of their most politically active base. The promise was, that they get their support on the grounds that they pull out of Iraq PDQ.
