Yes. I'm (obviously) a pro-life voter, but if the abortion issue were not around, we would have a very different political landscape. That one issue warps the entire political field.

Take away abortion, and debate the candidates' stands on taxes, defense, illegal immigration, etc. Take away the religious angle, and debate the issues, and I wonder who the religious conservatives would vote for, if they could leave the religious aspect out.

And all those points ARE around and could be adversely affected by a bad USSC nomination - negating many gains made in the last six years.
