I despise what Mary Cheney has done, but I also understand that the President has a duty to be the leader of all the American people. In this instance, such a duty may have publicly "tied his tongue." Given the problems that other Presidential and Vice Presidential children and siblings have had, including those of his own young adult years, Neil Bush, and the son and daughter of Jeb Bush, it is difficult to be harsh publicly within the "family." To my knowledge, you would have to go back to Eisenhower to find a President and a Presidential family that was scandal free. And even he reportedly had an affair with Kay Summersby, his British secretary, during World War II.

President Bush need not have been negative - a no comment would have been the dignified response - unless of course, he approves and the situation does make him happy.
