Other than appoint strict constructionists to the bench & use the bully pulpit to denounce abortion, Rudy can do very little about abortion.

As long as he kills the terrorists and cut my taxes I don't need him or other Republican hypocrites preaching moral values that I can get from my church & community.

Good post. I've never gotten the connection so many people have between the President and Aabortion. We had 8 years of Reagan and * years of Bush and we still have legal abortion. Reagan gave us O'Connor and Kennedy. The President has very little power over abortion.
Same with guns. Bill Clinton was President for 8 years. I don't know anyone who lost their guns or had them cofiscated and I know plenty of people with guns. In any event, the gun control issue is largely finished at the moment. When the dems run and support guys like Webb, Ford, Casey, tester and others who support gun rights, it's evident. Kerry didn't talk about guns at all. Guns won't even be an issue in 2008.
Also, it's not even 2007. Who knows what will happen in the next 2 years? What issues will arise? What new situations? The best thing to do is to sit tight, let the candidates decalre and run, follow the campaigns and early debates and start really paying attention around labor day. Until then, this is all just a bucnh of speculation. Whcih of course, is what FR is good for, but still.
