W'S DRIFT TO IMPOTENCE

JOHN Bolton's resignation as the American ambassador to the United Nations makes it official: The Bush administration is now drifting idly toward a mixture of centrism and impotence.

In less than a month, two of President Bush's stronger and more independent aides - Donald Rumsfeld and Bolton - have been dispatched. Rumsfeld's designated successor, former CIA head Robert Gates, is a leading member of the Beltway's permanent bureaucracy.

The administration seems to be waiting for the Baker-Hamilton commission of old Washington hands to dictate U.S. policy on Iraq. Leaks from the commission suggest it will recommend a gradual U.S. withdrawal camouflaged by negotiations with Iran and Syria over a new Mideast grand bargain.

All of this feeds an exaggerated defeatism in the United States over Iraq.

Rumsfeld's abrupt firing was an act of flagrant disloyalty to a loyal subordinate. The defense secretary had made his share of mistakes - notably, his failure to crush looting immediately after the fall of Baghdad - but he had followed the president's policy faithfully.

We don't know for certain the reasons for Bolton's departure: Either the White House wasn't prepared to fight for him, or he was no longer prepared to lend his voice to the diplomatic charade over Iran and North Korea. Either way, his departure demonstrates timidity on the administration's part. The net result will be that Bush has one less loyal subordinate in the shrinking ranks of his own administration.

Words are powerful; again, I don't think the middle won't vote under any circumstances.

The world is a scary place right now to many people, and I believe if you appeal to these folks in an honest manner, they can be won.

Unfortunately some people don't understand that analagy. He was your senator, not mine (we have our own RINO) but nowhere as bad a Chaffee. DeWine has a kind face, Chaffee has an evil face.

I have had quite enough of these emotional midgets venting their impotent rage against a man 10 times the man they will ever be.

God has blessed us with two great leaders in our lifetime, and I for one will NEVER stop being thankful that He has.

I hope you are right. So many people are unaware of a tenth of what we know here on FR. Look how many cannot identify a picture of the VP or Rummy, etc., but they certainly know Britney or Snoop Dog.

DeWine is a kind man, and he is a good man, but IMO, he is a very weak man, and was caught up in the D.C. mentality.

Had he just had the courage to stand for something, he would still be our Senator, and we wouldn't have a Marxist representing us.

You know that and I know that, maybe a grandfather clause, to let those who have the resources die in the senate..... And I know about states rights and all that, but congress is abusing it's power. We've enacted unconstitutional amendments, prohibition, and we've said abortion is a constitutional right. So, this is so much closer to amending the constitution than the other two. With the abuse so rampant, this is what we need. But, LOL, it won't happen, too much government in the way to do it anyway.

I was one of them, some ten years ago or so; I was amazed at things being written here.

I send as many people to this website as I can; curiosity gets the best of people.

Think of all of the people that are registered here. Now think if they all handed the web address out.

As if their rank speculation and daily droning of how bad it's going in Iraq didn't have it's part in feeding defeatism. The arrogance of these people is unbelievable.
