The whole citation:
Some Pharisees approached him, and tested him, saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?" He said in reply, "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate." "They said to him, "Then why did Moses command that the man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss (her)?" He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery."
Jesus was talking about th inviolability of marriage. He wasn't discussing sexuality here per se. He wasn't condemning gays but those who would divorce.
And, of course, no good Christian would ever divorce, nor any Christian church condone such a practice.

"He [in Matthew 16] wasn't discussing sexuality here per se. He wasn't condemning gays but those who would divorce."
He was showing God's standard for sexual behavior. We humans have all sinned and fallen short, but the idea that somehow homosexual behavior would be acceptable to God is utterly absent from both the Old and New Testaments. In fact, the idea of homosexual "marriage" or homosexual behavior as an accepted lifestyle would have been dismissed as patently absurd even 30 years ago. It's a radical shift.
I'm not going to argue your point that many Christians and most Christian churches have failed to uphold marriage, since I agree with it.

BTW, I'm a Noachide. I believe the Torah is the inviolate word of G-d and that non-Jews have 7 commandments, one of which is not to commit sexual immoralities.
For Jews, there are three cardinal sins for which one is supposed to die rather than commit, one of which is sexual immorality.
