Mary Cheney, the vice president's openly gay daughter, is pregnant. She and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, are "ecstatic" about the baby, due in late spring, said a source close to the couple.
It's a baby boom for grandparents Dick and Lynne Cheney: Their older daughter, Elizabeth, went on leave as deputy assistant secretary of state before having her fifth child in July. "The vice president and Mrs. Cheney are looking forward with eager anticipation to the arrival of their sixth grandchild," spokesman Lea Anne McBride said last night.
Cheney, 37, was a key aide to her father during the 2004 reelection campaign and now is vice president for consumer advocacy at AOL. Poe, 45, a former park ranger, is renovating their Great Falls home.
News of the pregnancy will undoubtedly reignite the debate about gay marriage. During the campaign, Mary Cheney was criticized by gay activists for not being more publicly supportive of same-sex marriage. Her father said people "ought to be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to" but deferred to the president's policy supporting a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages. Cheney herself called the proposed amendment "a gross affront to gays and lesbians everywhere" in her book, "Now It's My Turn: A Daughter's Chronicle of Political Life," which was published in May.
Cheney has described her relationship with Poe -- whom she took to last year's White House dinner honoring Prince Charles and Camilla-- as a marriage. The two met in 1988 while playing ice hockey and began dating four years later. They moved from Colorado to Virginia a year ago to be closer to Cheney's family.

She is a public figure. She knew her pregnancy would be national news. She and her partner may even have discussed the benefits of having the Cheneys' be the grandparents when deciding who would be the mother. As you point out, Mary Cheney is a pretty keen advocate for homosexuality.
I find the whole thing surreal. Two women having a baby makes national news and we are expected to think it is great news or have no opinion on it because it's the Vice-President's daughter. I think it is a sin against nature, no matter how "nice" the couple appears.
A baby, child and youth deprived of a Dad by selfishness and zeitgeist. Two women, incomplete, by choice. A child, incomplete, without choice.

Thank God that Petronski and libloather still haven't started any rumors naming me as the biological father.
He was showing God's standard for sexual behavior. We humans have all sinned and fallen short, but the idea that somehow homosexual behavior would be acceptable to God is utterly absent from both the Old and New Testaments. In fact, the idea of homosexual "marriage" or homosexual behavior as an accepted lifestyle would have been dismissed as patently absurd even 30 years ago. It's a radical shift.
I'm not going to argue your point that many Christians and most Christian churches have failed to uphold marriage, since I agree with it.
But it will be used to shove the gay rights agenda down our throats.
A)There is no scientific evidence that homosexuality is anything but a learned behavior.
B)Many lesbians claim their homosexuality as a choice.
Good lord, all you people saying that children deserve a mom and a dad aren't out there in the dating world today, are you? Most lesbians I know are 10x more masculine than the guys I've been out with lately. I wouldn't worry that this child is going to be short on testosterone.

If his heterosexual daughter's husband beat her daily, I think that would be more difficult for Mr. Cheney than this.

BTW, I'm a Noachide. I believe the Torah is the inviolate word of G-d and that non-Jews have 7 commandments, one of which is not to commit sexual immoralities.
For Jews, there are three cardinal sins for which one is supposed to die rather than commit, one of which is sexual immorality.
