Nope...at least not the way they would be homeschooled in my house where there are loaded firearms waiting for someone like this to come through the door.
Sorry, but that is the answer here. Arm the citiznes and let them defend themselves. Arm all the teachers who so desire, arm the administrators...at home, arm yourself. Train in firearm use and safety...but be prepared. When a few of these animals are knocked down as they walk into an office or classroom brandishing their firearm, such instances will markedly decrease as will the bodies such animlas pile up.
Just my opinion.

However, we also have to consider the Amish view of firearms. Until today, this was really unthinkable, they are one of the most insulated societies in the world.

I agree, but the Amish will go back to being the same as they were. They are a very passive people and I would bet they won't arm themselves. They will forgive their attacker and pray for his soul.

Jeff, it's a one-room schoolhouse with one female adult teacher. If the teacher had a gun, it probably would NOT have made a difference if an adult man stormed into the building with a shotgun - she never would have had time to go for her weapon.
There is a time and a place for 2nd A activism. Just as we don't want the Brady Bunch vampires to make political hay out of this, we also should refrain here, given this was a rural one-room school with one teacher.
